If you want to experiment, you can begin by attempting to play some of the works of the renaissance lute and vihuela composers on your CG.
(Django Lute Tablature software) There is a wealth of music available on the internet, so that will be the LEAST of your problems! (including Youtube and several informative lute news groups) There is also an excellent lute tablature software program that also comes with an extensive library of digital files and a helpful usergroup. and have attempted to learn to play several instruments (not very well) Finding a lute teacher is even more difficult than finding a CG teacher (and even more necessary ) All that said, there are some EXCELLENT web resources if you want to attempt it on your own. GEO is right of course, but he should have warned you that I would be a bad influence on you! I am also an Early Music fan. Is it wise to start learning the lute? - I haven't got the posts for pdf levels 5,6,7, but i sight read level 4 pretty easily.
On a positive note - I love renaissence and baroque music (started singing it a s Cathedral chorister when i was knee high). Obviously (suppose) it means learning lute tableture and different strings, and personally I have found it difficult to get CG music here in the UK (though if you want to strum to pop stuff there's plenty) I thought It would be better to improve my CG first - but being self tought (on the CG, though I have had teachers for Clarinet/sax), I don't seem to be improving much beyond intermediate. Sounds sad, but I haven't even strung it yet (10 course), a few of the reasons are: It also came with Diana Poulton (sp?) learning to play lute. I've had this lovely tenor lute that I bought from a friend about 16 years ago!.
